At their general meeting on Tuesday evening, the members of the Wiesbaden district association of BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN analysed the results of the federal and mayoral elections, exchanged views on the pros and cons of an election recommendation for the run-off election to the mayoral election and made a decision to issue an election recommendation for Gert-Uwe Mende (SPD).
“We would like to thank all the voters who voted for our green candidate in the OB election. A special thanks goes to Gesine Bonnet herself, who has promoted Wiesbaden's progressive and ecological future with great energy. Their election campaign has provided important impetus, in particular for the mobility transition, climate protection and children and young people”, said the two district presidents Rebecca Thomas and Daniel Schmitt.
Election recommendation for Gert-Uwe Mende (SPD) in the run-off election
The Greens of Wiesbaden have been working successfully for about three years in a Cooperation with SPD, VOLT and DIE LINKE together. “In recent years, we have worked together with Gert-Uwe Mende as OB in a spirit of trust in the town hall cooperation and have jointly implemented or launched many green projects, such as new pedestrian zones, the conversion of Alsace Square into a green area and the upgrading of Schwalbacher Straße. Together with him, we have mastered the coronavirus and energy crisis. We are also united in the fight against right-wing extremism and for a diverse urban society", says Gesine Bonnet, who is also the Green Group leader. "At the same time, there are fields where even more needs to happen. We discussed this with Gert-Uwe Mende in person on Tuesday. He has assured us that in the event of his re-election, he will continue to advance important future projects with us: These include the transition to transport and heating, building in existing buildings to minimise land consumption, city-wide climate protection management and the project "Administrative Modernisation", says Bonnet.
It was also important for the GRÜNEN that Gert-Uwe Mende, unlike his competitor, wants to leave the Supervisory Board of ESWE Verkehr as it is. "Our municipal bus company is back on track, the town hall cooperation has increased the funding, the timetable has been extended again. With the recently adopted local transport plan and the planned new depot, there is a strong future perspective. For employees and bus passengers, it is important that work can now continue with peace and continuity – and this is only ensured by a Lord Mayor Mende’, says Bonnet.

"Even if we do not run for the run-off with a green candidate, it is still important that our voters put their vote on the scales," says Rebecca Thomas. “We therefore call on our voters to go to the run-off and recommend voting for OB candidate Gert-Uwe Mende (SPD)”, says Daniel Schmitt.
