MORE POSSIBLE MAKE for Wiesbaden - GREEN Wiesbaden start the municipal election campaign in 2026 with a strong team and programme for the future

The Wiesbaden Greens today presented their electoral programme and the list for the local elections in 2026. With a strong leadership, a broad-based team of already experienced and new candidates, they want to continue to shape Wiesbaden politically in the coming years and make this city more livable and sustainable for all.

Greens compete with a diverse team with many young faces

On the list for the city council there are many new names as well as persons who have already been for the GREEN Wiesbaden in the city council.

“With our list, we are broadly positioned and, together with the different backgrounds, bring expertise to all policy areas. The fact that we have chosen eight people under the age of 35 as the partly very experienced persons on our list clearly shows: We are not just thinking about the future, we are actively bringing it to the table”, says Rebecca Thomas, district chairman of BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN Wiesbaden.

The Greens in Wiesbaden want to "make more possible"

With the wide-ranging election program, the Greens want to offer something to all parts of Wiesbaden's city society.

Rebecca Thomas, district chairman of BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN Wiesbaden: “We take responsibility for the whole city. We do not want to be a political force that narrows down to individual interests, but to make the city better for all people in Wiesbaden and to position it well for the future and make it more possible for everyone in Wiesbaden.”

The electoral programme of GREEN Wiesbaden is therefore not only structured by policy area, but also by target groups such as ‘children, families and single parents’ or ‘seniors’, so that readers can quickly find the content that is particularly relevant to them.

"The coming years will be crucial for Wiesbaden's response to the challenges of climate change, social justice, mobility and digital transformation. Today we show that we are ready to continue to take responsibility, with a programme that is ambitious and realistic at the same time. We stand for a policy that courageously tackles when something new is needed and develops what exists when it has proved its worth. Our guiding idea is a city that does not stop, but gradually improves – for everyone who lives here", says Daniel Schmitt, district chairman of BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN Wiesbaden.

With three main chapters, the electoral programme focuses on three main areas:

  1. Further development of Wiesbaden into a city where everyone can live well: This chapter deals with all infrastructural aspects of life that affect all Wiesbaden residents – from housing, mobility, healthcare and childcare services, as well as digital citizen services, to cultural and sporting activities. Above all, the focus is on preserving and improving the quality of life for all people in Wiesbaden. With a view to the climate crisis and the resulting challenges of the future, the Greens combine urban development with climate protection, climate adaptation and environmental protection as well as population protection.
  2. Designing Wiesbaden as a city where everyone belongs: Here, the GRÜNEN show that it is their concern that all different social groups with their different realities, needs and perspectives receive a political offer that will make Wiesbaden better for them – from women, families, young adults and senior citizens to people from the LGBTQAI* community, people with disabilities, people with migration history and also people in social emergencies.
  3. Securing Wiesbaden's future viability as a strong municipality: Here, GREEN Wiesbaden combines measures to promote Wiesbaden's attractiveness and strength as a university and business location with measures to modernize and transform Wiesbaden's infrastructure in order to create reliable, functioning and sustainable conditions for Wiesbaden as a business location. The Greens also want to modernise the administration, make it fit for the future with a view to digitisation and demographic change, and make the city administration attractive to young professionals as an employer.

Gesine Bonnet and Martin Kraft as leading duo of the green team

The list for the city council meeting of BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN Wiesbaden is led by Gesine Bonnet and Martin Kraft, who combine experience and future perspectives.

“We stand for a policy that seizes the opportunities of change, from the energy transition to the structural transformation of the city centre to the digital transformation. In this way, we strengthen our business location, ensure effective and citizen-oriented administration even in times of shortage of skilled workers and make our social network crisis-proof.”, says Gesine Bonnet. "This is the only way to find real answers to existing concerns about the future. On the other hand, those who believe that the solution is in a nostalgic yesterday are fooling people.”

Leading candidate Martin Kraft adds: “Our city has enormous potential. However, this must also be used. Today we are witnessing the consequences of the refurbishment congestion of the last decades. It is therefore essential for us to make Wiesbaden fit for the future now – with investments in climate-neutral energy supply, schools and townhouses, and transport infrastructure. We want to use climate protection as an opportunity for urban development. Examples of this are the transformation of Alsace Square into a park or the transformation of Schwalbacher Straße.”

The electoral programme – multilingual, barrier-free and mobile-friendly

On gruene-wiesbaden.de The election program and the list for the city council are available as PDF files and the election program is also available on the website itself.

Rebecca Thomas points out: “It is important to us that everyone understands what we stand for. That's why we offer our website and the election program in many different languages and have worked to make our website as barrier-free and inclusive as possible. Since many people mainly use their smartphones to obtain information, mobile readability was also important to us”.
